David Choffnes is an associate professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, executive director of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute, and an affiliated faculty member at the Center for Law, Innovation, and Creativity.

His work centers around distributed systems and networking, recently focusing on privacy, security, transparency, and mobile systems. That includes research on mobile, the Internet of Things, and crucial public infrastructures.

Choffnes is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program Award. He won Best Paper awards at USENIX Security and the Network and Distributed System Security Symposium (NDSS). He also received the Applied Network Research Prize from the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF). Choffnes’ work has been featured in media outlets from The New York Times to Good Morning America and supported by the National Science Foundation, The United States Department of Homeland Security, Google, Comcast, Consumer Reports, and Arcep.

He earned a Doctor of Philosophy and a master’s degree in computer science from Northwestern University and his bachelor’s in physics and French from Amherst College.
