Gemma Galdon-Clavell is a leading voice on technology ethics and algorithmic accountability. Her focus areas include Responsible AI, algorithmic auditing, data policy, educational technology, and ethics oversight. Gemma is the founder and CEO of Eticas Consulting, where she is responsible for leading the management, strategic direction, and execution of the Eticas vision. Her multidisciplinary background in social, ethical, and legal impacts of data-intensive technology allows her and her team to design and implement practical solutions to data protection, ethics, explainability, and bias challenges in AI. She has conceived and architected the Algorithmic Audit Framework technology that now serves as the foundation for Eticas’ flagship product, the algorithmic audit.Under Gemma’s leadership, Eticas has forged the development of a new market in digital ethics and trustworthy AI, reaching all verticals, including social services, healthcare, finance, government, education, cybersecurity, and more. Through the Eticas Foundation, Gemma has advised international organizations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, the United Nations, and the European Parliament on issues related to applied ethics and Responsible AI. She is also a technology ethics adviser at international, regional, and national public and private organizations.  Gemma is a sought-after keynote speaker and media contributor with the mission to shift the way we think about technology. Her contributions combine academic rigor, policy experience, and a commitment to protect people in technology processes by pioneering solutions and services that translate rights and values into technical specifications. Her academic work has been published in Science and Public Policy, Information Policy, Ethics and Information Technology, Citizen Science Theory and Practice or Urban Studies, and in leading academic publishers such as Routledge, Springer, and Sage. She has appeared in Forbes, Computer Weekly, Wired, El País, La Vanguardia, and Cinco Días.

In 2018, Gemma was a finalist for the Woman Innovator of the Year award from the European Commission and a finalist in the Booking.com Technology Playmaker Awards. She is part of the working group on Responsible AI certification for automated lending and collection for the World Economic Forum and a member of the DIGITAL SME focus group on artificial intelligence for the European Commission. She is a consultant for Real Instituto Elcano, Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the National Endowment for Science, Technology, and the Arts, among others. Gemma is also an independent ethics and scientific advisor for the French National Research Agency, the Joint Programming Initiative “Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe,” and Universidad Complutense. She’s an advisor to national and local governments in Europe, the U.S., and Latin America on technology policy and data ethics and an Asoka fellow.
