Predrag Radivojac is a professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences and the director of the master’s degree program in Data Science. He is also an August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professor and an honorary member of the Institute for Advanced Study at the Technical University of Munich.

Radivojac aims to improve our understanding of life at a molecular level and how molecular events affect higher-level phenotypes, with primary research interests in computational biology and machine learning. His research centers around developing algorithms and analysis techniques related to the function of biological macromolecules, mass spectrometry proteomics, genome interpretation, and precision health. Within machine learning, he addresses foundational and applied problems in semi-supervised, structured-output, and active learning. He also investigates topics from data bias to posterior distribution estimation to kernel and distance functions (e.g., metrics) across data types and analysis techniques.

Radivojac is interested in the performance evaluation of machine learning algorithms, particularly in hierarchical structured-output domains and cases of selection bias that often arise in the open-world setting.

After earning the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program Award, he is now an editorial board member for the Bioinformatics and Human Genetics journal, associate editor for PLoS Computational Biology journal, and a member of the Board of Directors for the International Society for Computational Biology.

Prior to joining Northeastern, Radivojac was a professor and associate chair of computer science at Indiana University. There, he also co-directed data sciences and informatics within the multi-campus Precision Health Initiative. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Novi Sad, a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Belgrade, and a doctorate in computer and information sciences from Temple University.
