Charting the Course: Experts to Gather at Northeastern University to Shape the Future of AI in Health & Life Sciences Education

On Oct. 9, 2024, Northeastern University’s Institute for Experiential AI will bring together leading experts in healthcare, education, research, and AI for The Future of AI in Health & Life Sciences Education workshop. This event will convene a diverse group of thought leaders to explore how AI is transforming health and life sciences education.

Focused on collaboration, the workshop aims to uncover opportunities for embedding AI tools in education, develop innovative approaches for teaching students and upskilling professionals, and address the challenges of implementing AI. 

This highly interactive session is designed to foster meaningful dialogue, share valuable insights, and lay the groundwork for future advancements in the field.  

Experts will explore what needs to be taught and how AI can be effectively integrated into learning programs. Through expert-led discussions and hands-on collaboration, attendees will work to shape the future of AI integration into educational curricula, preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Key themes will include:

  • Integrating AI into curriculum
  • Identifying essential AI education components
  • Teaching AI and machine learning to trainees
  • Overcoming barriers to implementation

“This half-day workshop is going to bring together educators, business leaders, individuals in the education space to talk about what’s needed to train the next generation of leaders in health and life sciences,”  said Sam Scarpino, director of AI + Life Sciences at the Institute for Experiential AI. “These individuals will work in companies to bring novel therapeutics to the market.”

  • Karen Huhn, professor of physical therapy and program director, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
  • Carmen Sceppa, dean, Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University
  • Rasu Shrestha, chief innovation and commercialization officer, Advocate Health
  • Tim Ruchti, director of algorithms, Nihon Kohden Digital Health Solutions
  • Connie Yowell, senior advisor to the provost, Northeastern University

Hilary Prosnitz, director of research development at Bouvé College of Health Sciences and Northeastern Charlotte, underscored the critical importance of integrating AI into today’s healthcare education.
