Casper Harteveld
Core Faculty

Casper Harteveld is an associate professor of game design, with appointments in the Department of Art and Design and affiliated appointments in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, the School of Law, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He is also a core faculty member of the Center for Design and Global Resilience Institutes and works closely with marine science, public policy, and business faculty.

Harteveld’s work focuses on advancing the use of games and gamification to study and improve human behavior. He empowers individuals to design, use, and analyze games and gamification for education and social impact, with applications centered around resilience, sustainability, and health. As a strong proponent of integrating research and education, he devotes a significant portion of his work to translating research outcomes to the classroom and informal settings.

Harteveld received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and doctoral degree in systems engineering, policy analysis, and management from Delft University of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Leiden University.
