Senior Researcher, Institute of Information Science and Technologies "Alessandro Faedo"

Chiara Renso is a senior researcher at the Institute of Information Science and Technologies “Alessandro Faedo” affiliated with the National Research Council of Italy Department of Engineering, Information, Communication, Energy and Transportation Technologies. She has her doctorate in computer science.Chiara has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in mobility data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence methods for mobility data, analysis of geolocated social media, semantic enrichment of trajectory data, and privacy in mobility data. She focuses on addressing problems related to the enrichment, representation, and analysis of semantic-rich trajectory data while considering privacy and ethical aspects. Chiara is an expert evaluator for the European Commission and has worked as a coordinator of national, international, and European Commission projects. She is currently the coordinator for the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) project called Multiple Aspects Trajectory Management and Analysis (MASTER). The project objective is to form an international and inter-sectoral network of organizations working on a joint research program to define new methods to build, manage and analyze multiple aspects of semantic trajectories. In 2008, Chiara was the local chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Data Mining (IEEE ICDM) and was the local co-chair of the Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval in 2016. She also co-chaired the Semantic Aspects in Data Mining workshops from 2008 to 2010 in conjunction with the ICDM conference editions.

Chiara has co-chaired three editions of the Workshop on Big Mobility Data Analytics held in conjunction with the International Conference on Extending Database Technology from 2019 to 2021, and three editions of FATES, The Web Conference’s Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, Ethics, Sustainable Development and Healthy Society workshop. Chiara was also the workshop chair of IEEE’s Mobile Data Management Conference in 2020. She co-chaired the special track, “Web4Good,” at The Web Conference 2022 and co-organized a Dagstuhl seminar, “Mobility Data Analysis: from Technical to Ethical,” in January 2022.

Chiara is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Geographical Information Science. She is also a board member for the Department of Computer Science Ph.D. program at the University of Pisa.
