Daniel Tigard
AI Ethicist

Daniel Tigard is a research scientist and AI ethicist at the Institute for Experiential AI. He earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University of Washington, a master’s degree from Brandeis University, and a doctorate from Tulane University. His scholarship addresses ethical questions surrounding emerging technologies, such as robotics and artificial intelligence.

Along with his role at the institute, Daniel serves as an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of San Diego and previously held a position as senior research associate at the Technical University of Munich. As part of an interdisciplinary project on responsible robotics, he worked to “embed” ethics into the development of sophisticated technologies, namely a humanoid robotic assistant intended for elderly persons and telemedical systems. Daniel is passionate about helping students and professionals to think carefully about how we interact with technology and how technology is changing our interactions with one another.
