Daniel Wikler is a professor at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is a faculty associate for several Harvard programs, including the Harvard Ph.D. Program in Health Policy, the Safra Center for Ethics, and Harvard Medical School’s Center for Bioethics. His current research interests span ethical issues in population and international health, such as the allocation of health resources, health research involving human subjects, ethical dilemmas arising in public health practice, and ethical dimensions of global tobacco control policy.

Daniel served as the first staff ethicist for the World Health Organization and as a staff philosopher for the President’s Commission for the Study of Ethical Problems in Medicine and Biomedical and Behavioral Research. He was also co-founder and the second president of the International Association of Bioethics. In addition to population and international health, Daniel’s published works address many issues in bioethics, including reproduction, transplantation, and end-of-life decision-making. He served as editor of the book series, Studies in Philosophy and Health Policy, published by Cambridge University Press, and as co-editor of Population-Level Bioethics, published by Oxford University Press. Among Daniel’s books are From Chance to Choice: Genetics and Justice, the WHO’s Casebook on Ethical Issues in International Health Research; Inequalities in Health: Concepts, Measures, and Ethics, and Measuring the Global Burden of Disease: Philosophical Dimensions, most of which were co-authored or co-edited with colleagues associated with the Harvard Program in Ethics and Health.
