Giulia Taurino is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Experiential AI, the Roux Institute, and the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. Her research centers around content organization on online platforms and digital archives, the cultural implications of algorithmic technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the arts, heritage, and museums. Her previous residencies and awards include the Mitacs Award, a grant from the Media Studies Commission of the International Federation of Television Archives, the Science +Technology +Arts and Nesta Italia City of the Future prize and a creative showcase with Unreal Engine. She previously worked in the NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks. Before joining Northeastern, Taurino worked in the Virtual Humanities Lab at Brown University, the MIT Open Documentary Lab, and the MIT Data + Feminism Lab. She was a research affiliate at metaLAB (at) Harvard, where she explored the intersection of AI and curatorial practices in museums under a project called Curatorial A(i)gents. Taurino has also served as a director of research and innovation at the AI Impact Alliance, where she worked on project design and implementation research for AI ethics and sustainable development goals. She holds a doctoral degree in media studies and visual arts from the University of Bologna and the University of Montreal.
