Department, jointly appointed in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, and program director of the Master of Science in Robotics.

His research interests lie in the area of field robotics with an emphasis on simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), imaging, mapping, and machine learning—particularly in the marine, polar, and aerial domains.

His group received credit for designing and building a new imaging platform for high-resolution optical and acoustic sensing called the Seabed autonomous underwater vehicle and the Jetyak Autonomous Surface Vehicle. Dozens of these vehicles are in use for scientific and academic research across the globe. Singh also has strong research interests in small unmanned aerial systems.

In support of marine geology and biology, deep water archaeology, chemical oceanography, polar studies, and coral reef ecology, over the years, Singh has participated in 60 expeditions across the world’s oceans. Before joining Northeastern, he worked at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) after earning a doctoral degree from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography and Applied Ocean Science and Engineering.
