Milica Stojanovic is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and serves as an affiliate faculty member with the Department of Bioengineering. She is also a permanent guest lecturer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and a visiting scientist affiliated with the Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Laboratory at MIT Sea Grant. Her research interests include digital communications theory, statistical signal processing, wireless networks, and their applications to underwater acoustic systems.

Stojanovic is currently an associate editor for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Journal of Oceanic Engineering and chairs the IEEE Ocean Engineering Society technical committee for Underwater Communication, Navigation, and Positioning. She serves on the editorial board of Signal Processing Magazine and previously held the position of associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and Transactions on Vehicular Technology.

Stojanovic is the recipient of the IEEE/Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) Distinguished Technical Achievement Award and the IEEE Women in Communications Engineering Outstanding Achievement Award. She is also an IEEE/OES distinguished lecturer. In 2022, she was elected into the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia, and also received an honorary doctorate from the Aarhus University in Denmark.

Before joining Northeastern, she was a principal scientist at MIT. She holds a master’s and doctoral degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
