Data Scientist
Peter Vickers is a data scientist in the AI Solutions Hub at the Institute for Experimental AI. He recently completed a Ph.D. in multimodal AI at the University of Sheffield, U.K., where his research focused on visual question answering, citation recommendation and evaluation metrics. During his doctoral studies, he interned at Amazon as an applied scientist, working on text-image retrieval. Vickers holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from the University of Oxford and a master’s in NLP and speech technology from the University of Sheffield, where he specialized in structured text generation.
With six years of experience in NLP, Vickers has worked in both academia and industry. His projects include speech-to-speech translation and academic document modeling at the JSALT 2022 and 2023 summer workshops and designing a paper recommendation system for the University of Sheffield Library.
In his free time, he enjoys hiking and backcountry skiing and led the 2024 UK Stauning Alps expedition to East Greenland.
