Robert Platt

Rob Platt is an associate professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, with an affiliation in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research centers around developing robots that can perform complex manipulation tasks alongside humans in the uncertain everyday world. At the intersection of robotic policy learning, planning, and perception, Platt’s work in robotics assembly repair tasks and enabling robots to grasp and lift objects will have a range of future applications in the home, healthcare, factories or warehouses, hazardous environments, and the military.
Before his role at Northeastern, Platt was a research scientist at MIT, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Buffalo, and worked as a technical lead at NASA Johnson Space Center. He holds a doctoral degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
