Ronald Sandler is a professor and chair in the Department of Philosophy and Religion, affiliated with the Digital, Analytics, Technology and Automation Initiative at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, and director of the Ethics Institute. He researches the ethics of emerging technologies, environmental ethics, and moral philosophy. Within AI and information ethics, Sandler looks at the ethics of content labeling and building ethical capacity within organizations.

Sandler is the author of numerous books, including Environmental Ethics: Theory in Practice (Oxford), Food Ethics: The Basics (Routledge), The Ethics of Species (Cambridge), and Character and Environment (Columbia). He also authored a widely circulated report titled,  Nanotechnology: The Social and Ethical Issues (Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars) and edited Ethics and Emerging Technologies (Palgrave MacMillan), Environmental Justice and Environmentalism (MIT Press), and Environmental Virtue Ethics (Rowman and Littlefield).

Sandler received the Northeastern University Excellence in Teaching Award. He earned his doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
