Stefano Basagni is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a core faculty member at the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things.Basagni’s research focuses on the study and implementation of mobile networks and wireless communications systems, wireless sensor networking for the Internet of Things (underwater and terrestrial), definition and performance evaluation of network protocols, and theoretical and practical aspects of distributed algorithms.

Basagni has published over ten dozen refereed technical papers and book chapters and is co-editor of three books. He has been guest editor of multiple journals within the Association for Computing Engineering (ACM), The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Wiley, and Elsevier. He has also been on organizing and technical program committees of ACM and IEEE journals. Basagni has co-chaired various aspects of conferences, including the ACM Dial M for Mobility; Med Hoc Net; the IEEE International Conference on Sensing, Communication and Networking, IEEE Globecom; and a dozen others.

Basagni is a distinguished scientist of the ACM (and the ACM SIGMOBILE), a senior member of the IEEE Computer and Communications societies, and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and the Council for Undergraduate Education.He earned doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas and computer science from the University of Milano after completing his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pisa.
