Yanjun Zhu is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Experiential AI (EAI). He is on the AI + Health team and focuses on developing human-centric AI solutions that leverage machine learning to extend human intelligence. His research interests are in human activity analysis, video understanding, and their explainability.

Before joining the institute, he received a doctorate in computer science from the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) in 2023. There, he worked on developing algorithms and models that can accurately predict future actions and high-quality movements. The ultimate goal is to build intelligent machines that can understand and predict human behavior. It has significant applications in various fields, such as human-robot interaction, autonomous driving, and extended reality. He also co-led the Semantic Forensics project in the UB team and developed approaches detecting cross-modal inconsistency to defend against fake news.

Yanjun is also interested in general computer vision applications that can increase productivity. He worked on building agricultural vision systems in pursuit of his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His work on in-field automatic observation of wheat heading stage was awarded the Outstanding Paper Award by the European Society of Agricultural Engineers in 2016.
