Yongmin Liu

Yongmin Liu is an associate professor with joint appointments in the Departments of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Liu’s interdisciplinary research bridges engineering, optics, applied physics, and nanoscience. His interests are in the design and implementation of novel nano optical materials and devices for applications. These include optical information processing, high-rate data storage, super-resolution imaging, efficient light-harvesting, and ultrasensitive biomedical detection.
He is the author and co-author of over 100 articles in journals including Science, Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Physical Review Letters, Nano Letters, and ACS Nano, with over 8,800 citations. Media outlets including BBC News, CNN, NBC, Time magazine, The New York Times, Scientific American, National Geographic, Science, Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Nanotechnology, and Optics & Photonics News have widely reported his research.
Liu was a recipient of Northeastern’s College of Engineering Faculty Fellowship, the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Program award, the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, the International Society for Optics and Photonics Defense + Commercial Sensing Rising Researcher Award, and 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Award.
He received his doctoral degree from the University of California at Berkeley after earning his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in physics from Nanjing University.
