This special live event was held on April 25, 2023. Led by Usama Fayyad, executive director at the Institute for Experiential AI (EAI) and Professor of the Practice at Khoury College of Computer Sciences, with an introduction by Northeastern University Provost, David Madigan.
Leading Northeastern University experts discussed the fast-changing world of Generative AI and how it will change the nature of our work; the technology we teach; how we prepare learners, where the gaps are and will be for universities and employers, and how the global Northeastern University network is at the forefront of addressing these critical AI areas.
Generative AI and the Future of Work:
Around 80% of knowledge worker tasks will be accelerated significantly by Generative AI, most likely accelerating work. We still need humans to look over what has been produced via generative AI, adjust and fix it. Worker productivity is accelerated since they do less repetitive work and more creative/editorial. The human in the loop is a must, but we need to understand the proper use to realize the efficiencies responsibly.
ChatGPT and the Future of Education:
We want learners to use these tools as part of their education and faculty to use these tools as part of the educational experience of learners. This panel will showcase how Northeastern is already using these tools in the classroom and how we are thinking about the evolution of the use of Generative AI in education.
Implementing Generative AI in the Workplace: Opportunities and Threats
As organizations, businesses, and employers implement and integrate the Generative AI technologies in the workplace, what do they need to know? What do they have to be careful about? And what are the serious ethical, technical and legal issues that they must navigate?
