Generative AI & Northeastern University: From the Classroom to the Economy

Along with partners across Northeastern University, the Institute for Experiential AI (EAI) will host a vital conversation on recent developments in generative AI on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.  Led by Usama Fayyad, executive director of the Institute for Experiential AI (EAI) at Northeastern, Generative AI & Northeastern University: From the Classroom to the Economy brings together leading practitioners in computer science, education, healthcare, and law to address the evolution of AI and prepare the next generation for an AI-driven world.

The event will take place live at the Raytheon Amphitheater in the Egan Research Center with expert panel discussions and the announcement of new initiatives and courses at the university.

“As advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence bring unprecedented capabilities to business, education, and the general public, Northeastern University sits at the forefront of this technological revolution,” said Fayyad. “It’s imperative that we address the fast-changing world of generative AI and work together to answer crucial questions on the changing nature of our work, the technology we teach, how we prepare learners, the gaps for educators and employers, and more.”

9:15 a.m. Generative AI and the Future of Work

Around 80% of knowledge worker tasks will be accelerated significantly by Generative AI, most likely accelerating work. We still need humans to look over what has been produced via generative AI, adjust and fix it. Worker productivity is accelerated since they do less repetitive work and more creative/editorial. The human in the loop is a must, but we need to understand the proper use to realize the efficiencies responsibly.

Moderator: Carmen Sceppa, Dean of the College Bouve College of Health Sciences

Panelists: Usama Fayyad, Michael Bennett, Matthew Goodwin, Rai Winslow, Beth Noveck
